Sarah DeShields is a seasoned singer songwriter, musician, photographer and contemplative artist from Scotland, UK living in the mountains of North Carolina. She studied Percussion at York St. John University, earning her BAhons in Communication Arts: Studies in Media and Performance, after which she moved to America and began performing and recording in a variety of bands including noise rock band Wunderbeast and dream pop band Broadcast Safe. Throughout her time in North Carolina Sarah has recorded two solo records and produced for other artists.

 

In 2020 Sarah released her latest project, ‘Death and the Woman’, an album with incredible scope across genres that explores her heritage as a Scottish woman living and working in the Appalachian region of North Carolina. The work celebrates tradition while moving it through into contemporary realms of discovery. Themes of the feminine, life-death-life and love of land run through the record as earthen threads, simultaneously haunting and lifting the listener in turn. The album is a landscape of its own making.
